IwasupthenextmorningbeforetheOctobersunriseandawaythroughthewildandthewoodlandTherisingofthesunwasnobleinthecoldandwarmthofitpeepingdownthespreadoflight,heraisedhisshoulderheavilyovertheedgeofgreymountainandwaveringlengthofuplandBeneathhisgazethedew-fogsdippedandcrepttocrepttothehollowplacesthenstoleawayinlineandcolumn,holdingskirtsandclingingsubtlyattheshelteringcornerswhererockhungovergrasslandwhile the bravelinesofthehills came forthonebeyondothergliding.


Thewoodsaroseinfoldslikedraperyofawakenedmountainsstatelywithadepthofawe,andmemoryofthetempestsAutumnsmellowhandwasuponthemastheyownedalready,touchedwithgoldandredandoliveandtheirjoytowardsthesunwaslesstoabridegroomthanafather.


Yetbeforethefloatingimpressofthewoodscouldclearitselfsuddenlythegladsomelightleapedoverhillandvalleycastingamberblueandpurpleandatintofrichredrose;accordingtothescenetheylitonandthecurtainflungaroundyetallalikedispellingfearandtheclovenhoofofdarknessallonthewingsofhopeadvancingandproclaiming, “Godishere!” thenlifeandjoysprangreassuredfromeverycrouchingholloweveryflowerandbudandbirdhadaflutteringsenseofthemandalltheflashingofGodsgazemergedintosoftbeneficence.


Soperhapsshallbreakuponusthateternalmorningwhencragandchasmshallbenomore,neitherhillandvalleynorgreatunvintagedoceanbutallthingsshallariseandshineinthelightoftheFatherscountenancebecauseitselfisrisen.
